spam musubi

[RECIPE] Spam Musubi

Spam Musubi is a classic Hawaiian snack that's both sweet and savory. Rich and salty slices of spam are pan-fried to perfection in a teriyaki-style glaze and wrapped in Nori seaweed, creating a perfect on-the-go treat. This recipe includes a simple hack for shaping the Musubi, making it easy to mold into a perfect rectangle. Perfect for those potlucks or a tasty snack at home!

Recipe:

Serving: 8 pcs

Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Cooked Rice

  • 1 can Spam

  • 1 & 1/2 tbsp Soy Sauce

  • 1 & 1/2 tbsp Mirin

  • 1 tbsp Sugar

  • 4 pcs Nori Seaweed (4x8 inch)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the rice to prepare.

  2. Cut each sheet of nori in half, creating 2x8 inch strips.

  3. Cut the spam into 8 equal pieces.

  4. Heat a pan and cook the spam slices on both sides until golden brown.

  5. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, Mirin, and sugar. Pour the mixture into the pan, coating each slice of spam evenly. Remove from heat and set aside.

  6. Line a clean, empty spam can with plastic wrap, leaving some wrap hanging over the sides. Place 1/2 cup of rice into the can and press down firmly with a spoon to pack the rice, especially in the corners. Lift the rice block out pulling the plastic wrap.

  7. Place a slice of spam on top of each rice block. Wrap each with a strip of Nori. Wrap the entire Musubi in plastic wrap to hold its shape.

  8. Unwrap the Spam Musubi just before serving and enjoy.
